The Department of Science and Method for Engineering (DISMI), founded in January 1999, deals with methodological and applied research, university education and technology transfer in various fields of engineering and basic sciences.

DISMI brings together lecturers and researchers with internationally recognised experience and knowledge, active in international, national and local research projects. The transversal competences and the strongly interdisciplinary approach that characterises DISMI are essential to succeed in the most modern and complex technological challenges. DISMI is able to provide dynamic and qualified answers to engineering requirements both in its purely theoretical aspects and in those of design, prototyping and testing. The research and technology transfer activities developed within DISMI mainly cover the following areas:

  • Management Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Energy Engineering
  • Basic sciences applied to engineering

In the three-year period 2020-2022, DISMI acquired income from research and development contracts in collaboration with companies for a total of almost 3.7 M€, with a steady growth over the three-year period despite the difficulties resulting from the pandemic crisis.
In 2023 alone, the total budget from commissioned research stood at 2 M€, assuming a percentage weight of DISMI's fundraising capacity of over 30%.

For more information on the research and technology transfer activities carried out by DISMI, see the Research section of the website.
